We made it! Nous sommes arrivés !!!!

Ouf... quelle longue soirée.
Nous sommes arrivés vers minuit et demi à l`aéroport.
Il était plus tard qu`une heure du matin lorsqu`on a récupéré nos valises et 2 heures lorsqu´on est arrivé chez le premier COUCHSURFER. Expérience stressante et malheureusement ratée ...

It was dark and the directions to the house were hard to follow. The house numbers don´t necessarily follow one another in any order here (just like in Mexico). The idea that houses should follow each other in sequential numbers may just be a North America, European invention?? So the first challenge is to actually find the house (in total darkness). Thank God, we were accompanied by a very nice taxi driver and THE AMAZING ANDRES. He was our neighbour on the plane. We told him a bit about our adventure and he understood that I was paranoid about taking a taxi alone. He was going in the same direction and decided that he wanted to see us there safe. And I had told him about the whole couchsurfing project ... and maybe he didn´t seem too convinced, too sure that it was safe ... in LIMA anyways.

On est toujours en train de chercher la maison en question et finallement on pense l´avoir trouvée. Pas certaine que c´est la bonne car il fait vraiment trop noire pour voir le numéro (et ma lampe de poche est enterrée dans le fond de mon sac à dos ... trop loin). Le monsieur taxi sonne et resonne et sonne encore ... Mon coeur bat ... Ca va être NOTRE PREMIÈRE EXPÉRIENCE DE COUCHSURFING!!!! Tout d´un coup ... finallement ... une femme descend, endormie, et ouvre la porte en nous demandant ce qu´on veut. MERDE!!! je n´y comprends rien. C´était pourtant bien organisé et j´avais parlé á Vasco quelques jours avant. Il m´avait donné des directives très précises et tout et tout et peu importe l´heure à laquelle nous arriverions, il serait là...

Je lui réponds que je cherche Vasco et elle me dit qu´il n´habite plus là, qu´il a déménagé!!! QUOI???? Le choque total. Et puis j´ai l´air folle. Et puis je suis certaine qu´Andres se demande comment j´ai pu penser arriver dans un pays qui m´est tout à fait inconnu en pensant dormir sur un canapé d´un étranger à qui j´ai "parlé" sur internet. Pas dans son pays en tout cas. JAMAIS au Pérou, où les gens ÉTAIENT bien AVANT mais plus maintenant à cause de la pauvreté. C´est la survie qui compte.

Bref, on s´est retrouvé dans une chambre d´hôtel, merci à Andres.

But I have NOT given up on couchsurfing. I am convinced that it was a malentendu. A little glitch. Maybe (somehow) Vasco forgot he moved and gave me the wrong address???? Because we are now at an internet place and I have already received 3 e-mails from him screaming with worry. He doesn´t understand why we never showed up. He sounds worried sick ...
